Can Women Have It All
Can women have it all?
A few days ago I was having a conversation with my close girlfriends and was discussing if women can really have it all. And what does having it all mean? I got a variety of answers, but the most common answer was no. The answer no was usually given because it seemed impossible for a woman to become successful in her career and to also have children. This got me thinking, “Does having it all have to include children?”
I’ll be honest. I’ve never had the urge to become a mother and never had that feeling that women talk about wanting to carry their own children. I remember discussing this once with a male companion and was told that it was selfish of me for just wanting to focus on my career. This was probably one of the worst misogynistic comment I’ve ever heard in my life. Men are never called selfish if they want don’t want to become fathers and want to focus on their careers. I was appalled that in 2018 there is still this expectation from women that just because they are the gender that can reproduce, they have to do it at some point of their life. I’m not saying that being a mother ins’t a job by itself. But it is not a job that every woman wants and that is OK.
I’ve gotten so many strange reactions from both men and women for sharing the idea of not wanting to experience motherhood and becoming a mother. I don’t know why I get negative reactions for a lifestyle I choose and for making the choices I want for my body. Motherhood is beautiful and I have never judged a woman for wanting that for herself, so I would expect the same. For me having it all is when I know my voice is being heard and that people that feel that their voices are unheard feel safe and that they are equal like everyone else. When that day comes I know I can say I have it all and that I gave it my all.
For this shoot I felt that palazzo pants and a sexy coat give the boss look I was aiming for. Who What Wear has an amazing collection of pants at Target. I paired it with my gray coat because nothing says more “I’m a boss” than a sexy coat.
